Herkimer County created its first community development plan in 2022. Now we’re taking action to address priorities. We’re connecting people and communities to share solutions. And we’re spreading the word about great things happening around the County.

Then make them happen. That’s what It’s Happening in Herkimer County is all about.

Herkimer County has released its first countywide community development plan, after a two-year process to develop it. Now, Herkimer County is moving forward to implement priorities and connect people, businesses and communities. The planning project is a partnership of the Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Herkimer County government, and county municipalities. You can read more here.

It’s five years from now. Herkimer County’s people are thriving. Downtowns and rural villages are thriving. Business is thriving. Neighborhoods are thriving.

COVID-19. Workforce shortages. Housing affordability. Main Street declines. Remote geography. Poverty. Vacant buildings. Addiction. Outdated infrastructure. Racism and inequity. Tax burdens. Demographic change. Community divides.

These challenges run deep. They cross town and county lines. They involve many sectors and systems. And that’s why we need our communities, leaders and organizations to work together on solutions.
